Coming to the point the ego means physical self or limiting
the mind to the physical body. Every action is associated with a series of
thought processes within the waking experience. But the point is, the ego,
while being involved in this action
does not get into other thoughts which are unrelated to this action. If one
leaves the ego to itself it will wander aimlessly over things totally unrelated
to each other. This dissipation of the ego does not occur when one focuses it
into one action. While doing that action it dwells on only those things
which are related to the main action.
To this extent action itself disciplines the ego. Of course it may
not be a complete discipline. But in some sense there is mostly a
uni-directional restriction or piloting of the ego. The whole human experience
is based on the ego. The ego cannot be destroyed by action and conduct and
deeds.
One has to understand the fact that, the ego, physical body and the world exist
together. If one is missing the duality is impossible. Thus it is no use of
struggling to overcome only the ego. All other teachings propagate to overcome
the ego to get self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana. There is no use of struggling to
overcome the ego. It is impossible to overcome the ego with the ego. Only by
proper and perfect understning of the mind, it is possible to overcome duality.
The ego, body ant the world appear together and disappear to gather. Deeper self-search reveals the fact that, the ego, body and the world are one in essence. Therefore perfect understanding what is what is needed. The ego ,body and the world are product of ignorance. thus one has to get rid of the ignorance in order to acquire self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
The ego is the false self (waking entity) within the false experience(waking).
It is
the Self that is in illusion and it is the self that gets free from the bondage
of the illusion. The illusion is present in the form of mind. Mind is in the
form of universe. Universe appears as waking or dream and disappears as deep
sleep. The individual experiences of
birth, life, death and the world are within the waking experience. The dream is parallel waking experience and
waking is parallel dream.
Deeper
self-search reveals the fact that the, self is neither the waking entity nor
the self is the dream entity but the self is formless soul, which witnesses the
coming and going of the three states in succession without the physical
apparatus. This has to be mentally grasped
and assimilated to realize the formless soul, the innermost self is nothing to do with the three states.
On the standpoint of the three states, the three states are mere illusion.
